This well known broker is listed on the London Stock Exchange as IGG. The company offers an important amount of assets for you to trade, all of them are specified on this review below.

  • They are regulated in the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) of the United Kingdom, license number 04008957.

Main features

One of IG’s features is to make sure to keep your money safe and untouched in case of bankruptcy or insolvency. They will do this using a segregated bank account. This means that your money will not be part of the broker’s funds, it will be in an independent trust so as not to be touched.

This broker also offers exclusive 24/7 trading, also known as weekend trading, for some pairs such as GBP/USD. Using this feature, could be on top of the news and the market to trade and continue moving your positions.

IG Account types

IG Markets offers different accounts depending on the jurisdictions. As for the UK you may access an IG trading account, and an IG professional account.

To access the professional account you must be eligible to at least two of the following requirements:

  • Averaged used over 10 leverages in trading sizes per quarter over the last four quarters. The leverage should be a notable size.
  • Have a financial instrument portafolio, and cash deposits over €500,000.
  • Having worked in the financial sector for at least a year in an important or professional position.

In Australia you may have an IG trading account, a limited risk account, and a share dealing account. A limited risk account means that you will not be able to lose more than you deposit initially.

The share dealing account allows you to deal with shares. On UK shares there will be a £3 commission charged, and commission free for US shares.

For other countries and jurisdictions there are options such as an exchange account, swap free account, IG turbo 24 trading account, and an IG options trading account.

You also have the option to open a demo account with £100,000 worth of paper trading. With this you can practice any new ideas or get to know the platform or trading moves.

Fees and other commissions

Deposits

IG Markets has minimum deposits in all jurisdictions. For the UK it will be £250, for Australia it is $450, for the United States it will be a minimum of $250, and for Europe, except for UK and Switzerland, the amount is €300.

The deposit methods include debit card and credit card, which are free of cost in all countries except Singapore and New Zealand. Another option could be through e-payment methods such as PayPal which is fee free in the UK. Bank transfers have no minimum.

As for deposit method fees in the Australian jurisdiction, it will depend on your country of residence.

Withdrawals

Withdrawals have the same methods and fees as the deposits such as bank transfers, credit card, debit card, and e-payments. There are no specified minimum withdrawal amounts.

Others

IG has commissions per trade. If it is over three trades it will be a £3.00 commission per trade. If it is up to two trades then it will be £8.00 for each. These values include all assets, such as shares, trusts, ETFs, cryptocurrencies, etc.

  1. When you are on IG’s main page, you will see two green buttons that say “create live account”. You can click on the top right one, or the option in the middle.
  1. You will then be redirected to another page where you will have to fill in your profile information as shown below. When you click on the blue “next” button you will be agreeing to their access policy, and be asked to specify where you are based.
  1. Now you may pick one or more of the available accounts.
  1. For the contact information you must fill in your phone number, your date of birth, nationality, national insurance number (optional).
    You will then be ready to fill in your financial information such as your employment, your gross annual income, amount in savings and investment, and why you are going to invest.
  1. Now you should be on the experience section. You will see the questions in the picture below, and more on another page.
  1. Last step! Time to read and accept the company’s terms and conditions.

  1. The bottom screenshot is what you should be looking at on the main page of your demo account.
  1. On the very top right you will see a menu bar. The demo account is underlined blue because that is where you are at. Please click on “live accounts”. That is how you switch to the real account. You can always use this method to go from one account to the other.

How to deposit money and start trading

  1. Whichever account you have chosen will have a menu bar to the left, as shown below. Please click on “deposit funds”.

IG Markets is an international broker with an important variety of assets and account types. They have a good educational section on their website, and offer courses and seminars. However, they do not have live chat on their website as part of their customer services.
